When addiction is viewed as an illness, it removes the individual’s responsibility for his sin and it eliminates hope. Instead of using the word addiction we must use biblical terminology such as slavery to sin. Chemical dependence (drugs/alcohol, etc.) is the focus on self (idolatry) and is sin.
